Well. Here we go. With our overall snow pack in the Wind River Mountains over 400% and warm days, it isn’t any wonder we are now toying with flood possibilities near Dubois WY.

Of course with the runoff roaring away, much of the fly fishing around here is shot to pieces. We all knew it was coming so here we go!

Oh Boy! A Flood Warning! (No wonder there has been sand bagging prep going on for several weeks in Dubois, Wyoming.

...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RIVERTON HAS ISSUED A FLOOD
WARNING FOR THE FOLLOWING RIVERS IN WYOMING...

  WIND RIVER NEAR DUBOIS AFFECTING FREMONT COUNTY.

.AFTERNOON MOUNTAIN TEMPERATURES AT THE 9500 FOOT ELEVATION
REACHED THE LOWER TO MIDDLE 60S AGAIN ON THURSDAY AFTERNOON.
ACCELERATED SNOWMELT RUNOFF WILL PUSH THE WIND RIVER NEAR DUBOIS
ABOVE FLOOD STAGE BY EARLY FRIDAY MORNING.

A FLOOD WATCH IS STILL IN AFFECT FOR THE WIND RIVER AT RIVERTON.
THE WIND RIVER AT RIVERTON IS EXPECTED TO GO ABOVE FLOOD STAGE
EARLY SATURDAY MORNING...THEN CREST TO NEAR 9.3 FEET BY EARLY
SUNDAY MORNING. FLOOD STAGE IS 9.0 FEET.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

AREA RESIDENTS SHOULD MONITOR THE LATEST WEATHER AND RIVER
CONDITIONS. IF FLOODING IS OBSERVED, MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.

CONTINUE TO BE IN THE MIDDLE 60S FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.
ACCELERATED SNOWMELT RUNOFF WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

AFTERNOON AND EVENING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE ALSO
FORECASTED TO BE OVER THE WIND RIVER MOUNTAINS THURSDAY AND
FRIDAY.

A FLOOD WARNING IS IN EFFECT THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING FOR THE WIND
RIVER NEAR DUBOIS. THE WIND RIVER NEAR DUBOIS IS EXPECTED TO CREST
JUST ABOVE FLOOD STAGE EARLY FRIDAY MORNING. THE RIVER IS THEN
FORECASTED TO FLUCTUATE JUST BELOW FLOOD STAGE EARLY SATURDAY AND
SUNDAY MORNINGS. FLOOD STAGE IS 5.0 FEET.

THE FLOOD WATCH CONTINUES FOR

* A PORTION OF CENTRAL WYOMING...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS...
   UPPER WIND RIVER BASIN AND WIND RIVER BASIN.

* FROM MIDNIGHT MDT TONIGHT THROUGH EARLY SUNDAY MORNING.

* ACCELERATED SNOWMELT RUNOFF DUE TO WARM AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES
  AT THE 9500 FOOT ELEVATION WILL KEEP THE WIND RIVER AT VERY
  HIGH LEVELS THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

* THE HIGH FLOWS ALONG THE WIND RIVER FROM DUBOIS TO DOWNSTREAM
  OF RIVERTON WILL CAUSE MINOR FLOODING OF LOW LYING AREAS AND
  FLOODING OF AGRICULTURAL LANDS. FLOODING IS EXPECTED TO BE
  MORE WIDESPREAD AROUND THE BLACK BRIDGE AND HIDDEN VALLEY AREA
  DOWNSTREAM OF RIVERTON.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING BASED ON
CURRENT FORECASTS.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE
FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE
PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP.

Crazy! We may have similar situation in Dubois WY this year – 2014.
